When I first started getting my ipsy and Sephora Play! boxes, I was like a kid in a candy store! Ten bucks and all this tiny makeups to play with? WINNING!
Except after awhile all those tiny sized items… they lost their luster and I canceled all the boxes. That is until recently. As a makeup artist by trade, it’s ingrained in me to have to play with new products and frequently. I had the need for new stuff – new palettes, new skincare, new lipsticks, and new whatever-else-they-would-send-me, so I decided to turn to subscription boxes once again.
I remembered during makeup school that some of the gals had subscribed to BoxyCharm. It was a little bit more at $25/month but instead of tiny dudes, you get 4-5 full sized products. Beam me up, Scotty, I’m ready. I signed up in May 2020 and anxiously awaited my goodies.
Is it really worth it?
Okay okay, so enough with the small talk. You’re probably wondering… is the $25 really worth it? In short, ABSO-HECKIN’-LOUTELY. If you’re looking to be able to get a REAL feel for some new things, get introduced to new products and brands, play with some (full sized!) palette looks or really give some skin care a go… then you need to literally stop reading this and sign up for BoxyCharm right now.
NO WAIT! Stay! Let me tell you what I thought of my May box products before you go!
Beauty Creations – Cali Chic Palette
This is a nine-pan palette with warm Cali vibes from Beauty Creations. The colors swatch BEAUTIFULLY. I was actually shocked which you can see during my Live Unboxing video. After getting a chance to use the palette, I definitely feel like it swatched better than it applied. While I’m not one to always recommend this, I would say if you really want those shimmers to pop – applying with your (clean!) finger would be best. Retail value – $14.99
Murad – Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisturizer
This was a tough pill to swallow. Eye cream? Really, Murad? Well, if I’m honest, I’m closer to 40 years old than I am to 30 so really, I benefit from this. I am very picky about moisturizers because so many quickly turn my face into an oil slick. Gross.
This bad boy uses collagen and shea butter to plump and smooth out your skin around your eyes. It’s not greasy and it feels like heaven. I’d like to revisit this review once I’ve had longer to apply it nightly. But as of now, I’m digging it. 0.5oz Retail Value – $70
Deborah Lippmann Nail Polish Set
This little nail duo includes a pink and kind of berry red in the shades Fire On The Horizon and Can’t Stop The Feeling. They’re a bit pricey, clocking in at $20 each so I’m not sure I’d grab these in place of my OPI or Essie. According to the Deborah Lippmann website they are 7-free, gel polish alternative, vegan and not tested on animals. The colors are beautiful, easy to apply, and big win for me – they dry FAST! These may make a great Treat Yo’self gift! Retail Value – $20
Crown Pro Palette – Fuego Collection
I lucked out with not one, but TWO full-sized warm toned palettes in my May box! I admitted in my Live Unboxing that while I love Crown brushes, I actually had no idea that they even sold makeup! ::shame on me:: This ten-pan palette has five shimmers and five mattes to get you glowing for the summer! Like the Cali Chic, these colors swatched gorgeously. Retail Value – $39.99, currently on sale for $9.99. SAVE 20% with the code MICAEL20
English Laundry No. 7 Perfume
Y’all. This perfume smelled SO good. Fresh, not overly girly which is important to me. It just felt light with no overpowering scents. English Laundry is cruelty free as well! Now, you might be wondering why I don’t have a beautiful picture of this perfume. I guess I’ll take this time to introduce you to my 5th child. Their name is “Not Me”. You know the kid… the one when you ask all your other kids who took or did something and they all place the blame on “Not Me”. Well. Shortly after receiving my box, one of my perfume hoarding children took it and won’t fess up to where it is. 10ml Retail Value $24.99
The Wrap Up
I think this was a fun box! I got $189.97 retail products for just $25. C’mon. That’s a deal and well worth it.
I don’t receive these with the expectation that every item will become my new favorite. Also, normally I would be able to wear new things and test them out in the Florida weather, or long hours working… but given our worlds unusual circumstances, it’s not quite putting them through the same test when I’m just sitting at home, you know what I’m saying?
But all in all – I think this is a great little self-care investment! If you get something you really don’t like, consider saving those items up to donate to a local women’s shelter or an organization that helps get women back on their feet!
